Support to organisations and projects about equality

State grants to women's organisations
Support is given to independent women’s organisations. The aim of the contribution is to support women's societies and associations, to promote women’s participation in the democratic process and in the life of society, and to stimulate women’s opportunities to defend their rights and make their voices heard.

State grants to ethnic organisations
National organisations for ethnic organisations that carry out work based on language, culture, identity and participation in society can apply for support. The majority of members must have a foreign background. The work of the organisation must deal with issues in Sweden and be aimed at people who live in Sweden.

Support to LGBT organisations
Support is given to national organisations for homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals, or people with transgender identity or expression. 'Transgender' means not being as others expect a man or a woman to be. Women are expected to behave in one way, men in another.

State grants for equality projects
Support is available to promote equality between women and men, and is given to projects that can be linked to the government’s equality policy objectives. The objectives are concerned with women and men having: the same degree of power and influence; economic equality with the same rights to education, employment and entrepreneur-ship, and an equal division of labour in the household as well as an end to male violence against women.

Support for gender equality work among national minorities
Organisations that represent the national minorities can apply for the support. Sweden’s national minorities are Jews, Roma, Sami, Swedish Finns and Tornedalen Finns. The aim of the grant is to strengthen the position of women from national minorities within society. Projects may deal with women's rights, influence, education and training or health, or with women running their own business.

Only Swedish municipalities, Swedish organisations and Swedish foundations are eligible for financial support from the Swedish National Board for Youth Affairs.
