Youth policy
Young people are affected by the decisions made and the measures that are enacted in most government policy areas. Therefore, national youth policy spans across a number of different fields, such as: employment, housing, education, health, leisure, and participatory democracy.
Ms Nyamko Sabuni, Minister for Gender Equality and the Deputy Minister for Education, is responsible for coordination of the government's youth policy, management of issues that affect youth organizations, as well as international cooperation within youth-related areas. The central government agency, the Swedish National Board for Youth Affairs (Ungdomsstyrelsen), is an important actor in the implementation of youth policy.
In Sweden, the local authorities and county councils have a considerable degree of autonomy; therefore, many decisions that concern young people are taken at municipal level.
Over 1.5 million of Sweden's inhabitants are young people between the ages of 13 and 25.
